I remember one appointment with my physical therapist very clearly. He helped me with severe lower back pain and one of his solutions was: yoga. My core stability and flexibility was really bad, he told me. Yoga could help with training my core and stretching muscles and tissue that were tight and caused my lower back problems.
The first yoga class I attended was pretty confronting. All he said was true. My core was non-existent, and the poses were very tough because I was very stiff. But I came back. Every week I joined a yoga class and I started to feel less pain in my lower back.

The more I joined classes, the more joy I felt in living in a healthy body. After a few months my back pain was gone. Yoga also brought me peace. I took a class to break my day, or at the end of a busy working day. My mind was spinning, and I needed rest and a peace of mind.
The classes did not only give me rest and peace of mind but also more self-awareness and acceptance. The more I learned what my body could do and could not do, the more I knew I found peace on that level too.
